Date/Time: October 4th/3:00PM
Location: CIES student lounge
Topic discussed: We continued studying Chapter 4 of "English USA every day" - "Cooking Food". We covered the reading part ("salmon salad recipe"), re-enacting dialogues, learned new vocabulary including some high-frequency idiomatic expressions ("cook up a storm", "to know your way around the kitchen" etc) Feng has submitted his homework for my review. We corrected some minor grammar mistakes and worked on making his sentences more elaborate. Feng is enjoying this topic as it encourages the productive learning. After all, cooking and shopping for food is something we do daily. We also continued working with the "Conversational American-English" study aid by McGraw-Hill, which offers English language learners the practical knowledge of real-life situations like Greetings, Small Talk, Introductions, Ending a Conversation, Good-Buys and many more. We are currently exploring the chapter on "Introductions", which Feng enjoys as he applies his new knowledge in daily conversations with his American friends.
