Yun Jung CO #1

Date: September 4, 2018

Time: 10:00-10:50 a.m.

Topic/Skill: Grammar/Session 3A;
This Class lesson mainly concerned the ability to understand using future continuous and infinitives.

Teacher Presentation: The instructor used the white board to present examples of future continuous sentence first, having students concentrate on today's grammar issue at the beginning of class. After then, students were working on their text book with explanation from teacher and discussion with other students.

Classroom Management: The instructor effectively managed the class with perfect tone and volume of voice. She was standing at the board or walking around to help students throughout the class, without sitting down. I think that is a good way to catch students attention and make the class active. This was a grammar class but the instructor made the students speak aloud the sentences they made by sharing in groups to let them feel more comfortable in using. Also, the instructor seems good at time management, so her presentation, students' practice, and the preview of next class were well organized.

Student Participation: The students seemed very motivated to follow the flow of the class and ask questions about some expressions they are not sure. The students were somewhat quiet when they shared in groups, but seemed to work hard on teacher's instruction in general.

Feedback Provided: I think the way of instructor's leading in class was very good. She explained the features of each grammar issues very clearly and had the students work on it for practice. The student could have more confidence in use with sharing in groups. After sharing, she wrote several phrasal verbs or new verbs on the board and let the student engage to guess the meaning before exact explanation, which could allow them to remember the expression easily.

Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: I think this class was very well organized with good time-management. while I consider it is a good evidence of students' concentration if the progress of class is delayed with continuing question and explanation on a certain grammar pattern, it can be very effective teaching if the instructor thoroughly touches the relative grammar issues at a time since it helps students' understanding in general and categorization in mind about related grammar issues.
