Topic
Discussed: Continuation of Revisions on Narrative
Before
this session, I prepared a page for today’s activity. Specifically, I typed the
paragraph my Tutee hand wrote previously to foster further thinking and refinement of
her writing skills. This typed form provided a fresh copy to begin again the
revision activities for the narrative. We had written all over the handwritten
page, so the fresh copy was helpful. Essentially, the lesson was intended to focus
on how to list things in a paragraph.
The
prepared page provided a framework for engaging my Tutee in how to identify the
key points, and subsequently include them in a narrative passage. I think the framework
worked and provided sufficient scaffolding to facilitate learning. Too much scaffolding would inhibit the thinking processes of this good student.
The
meeting provided many opportunities to apply things we learned in class. For
example, the recent “guardian consonant” idea worked well in guiding
pronunciation for some spoken words I heard.
For
the next meeting, I will bring a typed page of my Tutee’s narrative as it
exists currently. I will ask her to make any final revisions she thinks are
necessary. Then, we can review the narrative and discuss any remaining “beautiful
mistakes.”
