Date/Time: September 17th, 9:00am
Location: Skype
Topic/Skill: Today we talked about Korean and American food differences as well as popular forms of transportation in Korea (trains vs. planes)
Feedback provided to tutee: I encouraged my tutee to try and speak faster without pausing to think about every other word. As we were speaking very casually, it was easier for him to maintain fluency in the conversation.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
I learned a lot about Korean and American cultural differences during this tutoring session. Specifically, we talked about a Korean show called "My first time in Korea." I have been to South Korea 3 times before and so I shared my own personal experiences going to Korea for the first time and experiencing things such as Korean food and drinking culture. My tutee was so shocked that there are open container laws in the US since drinking out in the open is very widely accepted in South Korea. We also talked about Western ideas of breakfast versus Asian ideas of breakfast. My tutee saw in the show that the Americans and Europeans visiting Korea for the first time were so shocked that breakfast was a full meal, with meat and soup and rice. I shared that my first time in Korea I was shocked as well, but I got used to it and even enjoy having rice and soup for breakfast now.
