NOTE: I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED THIS POST AND NOW I HAVE TO REWRITE IT. Sorry if it's different from the way it was before!

Topic/Skill: Grammar with Group 3-B
Infinitives and Gerunds/ Speaking assessment
Teacher Presentation: Instructor prepares for class by writing examples of “by”+ gerund on the board and begins class with an explanation. Then students were brought down to the computer lab to record a speaking assessment.
Classroom Management:
- Class moved down to the computer lab to use a program that didn’t end up working
- Instructor had a back up plan and passed out paper versions of the oral quiz for students to study before the assessment
Student Participation: Instructor realizes the variable of how awkward students might feel talking to themselves to record, so he holds a chat session using the same questions after the assessment ends to gain an additional perspective of the students’ skill levels. Self recording audio task designed to be holistic and open ended, forcing students to use the focus vocabulary (gerunds and infinitives) without specifically asking them to.
Feedback Provided: When most of the students didn’t do their homework, the instructor explained why the homework was important rather than just lecturing them to do it. When a student asked about a vocabulary term within the questions, the instructor asked him to answer himself by using context clues.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: Consciousness raising task, designed to use examples to demonstrate form and function rather than teaching form and function first . The way the instructor dealt with the student's questions during this task was extremely well thought out and considerate to each student's abilities.
