Topic/Skill: Introduction & Needs Assessment
Feedback provided to tutee: Focused on conversation and the student's needs and goals for learning English. Also looked a little bit on a writing assignment to get the sense of student's writing capabilities. His grammar was in general pretty good. Not really any conjugation mistakes but rather some confusion between adjectives and nouns. His sentences also lacked relative pronouns so that is something I would want to focus on in the next session since it could really improve the flow of his writing.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
He is from Kuwait and has been in the US for almost a year. When he first came to the US he barely even spoke a word of English and is now a very good English speaker. He told me he wanted to focus on his reading skills since he struggles with that category the most.
I learnt how helpful it was for me when the student is very clear about their weaknesses and strengths. It makes it easier for me to actually help the student with their specific needs and feel like we are really achieving something and improving.
