I will prepare questions for us to discuss, including questions using lower frequency vocabulary so he can learn how to use this vocabulary in conversation. Overall, he wants to work on using complex vocabulary and his grammar-in-use.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
During this tutoring session, my tutee and I discussed his job, his travels abroad, and his goals for our tutoring sessions going forward. This first session was more informal as I asked questions to get to know him. He also was able to talk extensively about his job as an aviation flight technician and I learned a lot about this field. He also talked about his travels abroad with his company. He has been to the United States a few times before but only for vacation. His English level was very advanced and he said that his main goal for these tutoring sessions was to improve his conversational English as he did not have very many opportunities to communicate casually with native English speakers. Sometimes he uses English at his job to communicate with the two foreign pilots on staff, but otherwise, he only uses Korean in his daily life.
