Topic/Skill: Writing an outline for the presentation/Writing + Speaking + Research

Feedback provided to tutee: I encouraged Feng to do his independent research on the subject of his presentation – hurricanes. We worked on the structure of his presentation and I shared my personal hurricane stories an example of what he may want to talk about in certain parts of his speech.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/tutee I learned: I learned that, as a tutor, I have to stay away from simply telling my tutee what exactly to write. Instead, I provide just enough information to point him in the right direction in his research and to encourage him to form his own sentences. I have also learned, that Feng had to evacuate during hurricane Irma last year and that, “thanks to this”, he got to see the Gulf of Mexico with its white-sand beaches as well as New Orleans!
