Date/Time: September 10th, 3:00 pm
Location: CIES student lounge
Topic/Skill: Introductions, goals for tutoring, future activities
Feedback provided to tutee: I corrected students grammar and provided new vocabulary words during the conversation as we talked about her language goals, language level, and future activities during the tutoring sessions
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
This tutee is a student from China who hopes to complete CIES and then pursue a Masters at FSU in Education. Her goal is to be an elementary education teacher at an international school, so she believes learning how to use correct and precise grammar and pronunciation are extremely important for her future career. She also says her weakest skills are listening and speaking, so we talked casually during this tutoring session and will continue to have a "casual conversation" element in our future tutoring sessions. She also noted that their homework is to read a novel, but that last week it took her three hours to read one page of the novel since there were so many new words. Going forward, we plan to read the novel together. This way she gets to practice with pronunciation reading out loud, and I can define the new words in English instead of her using a Chinese dictionary to define the new vocabulary words.
