Topic discussed: American Idioms, slang language
Patric and I elaborated on the phrase "To rock the boat" (instead of to "shake the boat" used by me in class:). We also touched upon the fact that the nature os any slang language is rather transient and very often phrases used by one generation are no longer used or even understood by the current generation.
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned:
We talked about some favorite local desserts (i.e. doughnuts in USA and "Napoleon" cake in Russia) Patrick was quick to observe that Napoleon was a French word and I told him that in 18th and 19th century Russia French language became the language of aristocracy. Therefore there are quite a few words of French origin in Russian Language vocabulary.
