Topic Discussed: Vocabulary, especially in context

This good conversation was about word meaning and usage. For example, my conversation partner was relaying information in which she used the word “conversion.” After asking her to clarify what she meant by the word, in context, it became clear that she was referring to the action known as “recruitment.” The additional questions, such as, “Can you explain what this company was trying to do with this person?” and others, made it crystal clear that this story was about recruiting people for an organization. I used several examples, subsequently, such as, If I wanted to have a person play on my football team, I would try to recruit him as a player. If it were a professional team, I would offer a competitive salary so he would sign a contract to be one of our players.

This also provided the opportunity to explore the word, “conversion.” Used often in religion, conversion, then, would be a process in which one comes to accept a given faith. For example, become a Jew, or Muslim, or Catholic. In the next meeting, we can explore other uses and meaning for the word, "conversion."
