Topic
Discussed: Continuation of Writing Practice
This
lesson was a follow-up to our previous lesson. During the previous lesson, I asked my Tutee to send me
an email in which she recommended places in her country for me to see and foods
I should eat. I was pleased that she responded favorably to the request and sent
her email the next day. She is at the beginning level and really wants to
learn. Intrinsic motivation is obvious and so is extrinsic motivation. She
wants to attend FSU!
I
copied the email she sent and brought them to today's meeting to discuss. More
scaffolding is needed at this development level and I tried to keep the
vocabulary simple and the pace of speech slow. The email printouts helped
continue the previous discussion focused on writing. In addition, she asked me
to read a narrative piece she had written. I was surprised to see how many
words she had “put on the page”. This writing sample seemed to be light years
ahead of the initial writing I saw previously. She is learning at a good pace in her CIES program.
Work
on verbs is needed and one of the items we worked on today. We will work on
verbs next week.
