Date/Time: September 6th/3:00PM
Location: CIES Student Lounge
Topic/Skill: American Slang, Art, Travel, Weather/Fluency of speech, vocabulary, pronunciation
Feedback provided to tutee: Corrected minor grammar mistakes and made adjustments in the student's pronunciation. We use repeat after me approach when i read the sentence and ask the student to read it after me.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: the subjects that my student can relate to, ignite his desire to talk more and share his personal stories. We talked about his travel to New York, his visit to MOMA, discussed different types of Art he had seen. We share fond memories about the white-sand beaches of the Panama City (where he visited briefly on his way to New Orleans, as they were evacuating from a hurricane). Naturally, we touched upon the weather and the Beach Weather Advisory flags. My tutee enjoys practicing conversational English language in interactive way. His grammar is usually very good and his fluency will increase with continues practice.
