Date/Time: September 14th, 9:00 pm
Location: Skype
Topic/Skill: Korean and American schools and school life, Korean Thanksgiving
Feedback provided to tutee: I corrected vocabulary mistakes (memorize vs. memorialize) and we went over some more advanced vocabulary concerning Korean holiday traditions
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: During this tutoring session I learned a lot more about Korean holiday traditions during Korean Thanksgiving. We talked about how the majority of people in Korea go back to their hometowns to see their family and honor their ancestors. We also talked more about Korean school and Korean schooling. I had recently learned about the rigor of Chinese schools and I wanted to know more about how Korean schools were run, specifically about how students were sorted into classes based on their grades and test scores. As usual, we worked mostly on conversational speaking fluency and making sure that my tutee felt comfortable and confident speaking English. His English is usually almost perfect but can be slow, so these tutoring sessions give him the chance to speak at a faster rate and work on fluency skills.
