EveTS#7

Date/Time: September 18th, 2018/3:00PM
Location: CIES conference room
Topic(s) discussed: Conversational American English - Basic Social Encounters - Greetings.
Feng and are are learning new Simple Greetings vocabulary. Today we continued covering "Small Talk" and how to express one's state of health and happiness. We learnt how to say that you 've been doing positive, neutral, negative and busy. Feng practised reading the phrases out loud, meanwhile asking about the meaning of certain expressions. Several times I had to resort to the use of "body language" (i.e. use gestures) to better explain the meaning of the word in question. Though I may modify the speed of my speech every now and then, consider Feng's comprehension level to be quite advanced. I have a feeling, that he possesses extensive receptive knowledge though lacks fluency in speech. We are working on improving the latter by practising creating dialogues and reading articles about everyday living in US. I believe this will increase Feng's confidence in his conversational skills and encourage him to initiate communication with native speakers; will help him make new friends.
